Trump Has Withdrawn 49 Nominees in 2025 – The Most of Any President in a Single Year

Tonight, another one of Donald Trump’s nominees failed to even get enough support to be put up for a confirmation vote by the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate. Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel — Paul Ingrassia — withdrew after being exposed for having a self-professed “Nazi streak,” despite his mother’s in-person pleas to legislators. 

This is just the latest in a long line of questionable and unqualified nominees to lead key government offices. Trump’s second term has the highest number of withdrawn nominees in a single year out of any president in modern history. 

Don’t forget: it was Trump’s pick for U.S. Attorney General Matt Gaetz, then Elise Stefanik — whose nomination to serve as U.N. ambassador was withdrawn because Republicans’ House majority was too slim —  followed by Ed Martin as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, and then E.J. Antoni for the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics who had a photo of Hitler’s favorite battleship hanging in his office.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“No one can rescue Donald Trump’s nominees — not even their mommies. Republicans control the Senate, and Trump still can’t get his nominees confirmed with his dumpster-fire picks, so they’re forced to withdraw month after month. Paul Ingrassia is just another humiliating example of Trump’s crusade to staff his administration with unqualified extremists.”
