NEW POLLING: Approval of Donald Trump’s Economy Hits Record Low As Americans Dip Further Into Savings To Afford Everyday Goods
December 11, 2025

New polling from the Associated Press today showed Donald Trump’s economic approval rating taking another nosedive, with nearly 70% of Americans disapproving of Trump’s handling of the economy. Another warning sign for the president: His economic approval among Republicans has fallen 9 points since March.
Another poll today shows the economic pain that everyday Americans are feeling under Trump’s watch. Nearly 3-in-10 voters indicated they held off on getting medical care over the past year, and almost 1-in-4 delayed or skipped their prescription drugs because of high costs; 1-in-3 said they skipped a meal; and nearly two-thirds said they have switched to buying cheaper or fewer groceries.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s trainwreck of an economy is catching up to him, and it’s no wonder voters are pissed. Trump promised to ‘lower costs on Day One,’ but prices are soaring, and good-paying jobs are out of reach for everyday Americans. Trump’s plan of action so far has been to call affordability a ‘hoax’ and tell Americans not to ‘be dramatic.’ Meanwhile, working families are skipping meals, forgoing critical medical care, and depleting their savings as Trump doubles down on his disastrous economic policies. While Trump twiddles his thumbs, Democrats are working tirelessly to bring down prices and lower the cost-of-living.”
Despite Trump this week grading his economy an “A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus,” prices on everything, including groceries, utilities, housing, and health care, are soaring, and the job market continues to slow to a crawl. To make matters worse — during the most expensive holiday season on record — a new report released today revealed that the average American family has already paid nearly $1,200 in tariff costs.
