New Polling: Trump and His Billionaire Backers Face Steep Backlash After Disastrous First Weeks in Office
February 7, 2025
Trump has been in office for less than a month and Americans are already sick of him and the billionaires he’s surrounded himself with from Day One. New polling confirms Trump’s approval rating has plummeted in the short time he’s been in office, as he pushes executive orders that have taken money out of Americans’ pockets and installed unqualified billionaires to dismantle popular programs that working families and small businesses rely on.
Americans voted for lower costs, not billionaires like Elon Musk to strip the U.S. government for parts. Now, across the country, Americans are fed up with Trump.
Take a look:
Trump’s approval ratings are falling – fast:
- Morning Consult: “For the first time this year, Trump’s favorability rating has fallen underwater”
- Morning Consult: Trump’s “approval rating fell 3 percentage points” since last week.
As Musk pushes Trump out of the spotlight and becomes the face of the administration, his approval ratings are in the gutter:
- Quinnipiac: 53% oppose Musk playing a key role in Trump’s admin. Musk’s net favorables are way down.
- CNN: “This as Musk becomes a main face of the Trump admin (Google searches for Musk are up 700%).”
- House Majority Forward: “Musk is viewed negatively among 1,000 registered voters in battleground districts.”
Even Republicans overwhelmingly oppose Musk since his elevation to DOGE:
- The Economist/YouGov: Last November, 47% of Republicans wanted Elon Musk very involved with the government. Today, only 26% of Republicans support Musk’s involvement.
Independents see Trump and his Billionaire Cabinet as chaotic and reckless:
- Navigator: “Supporters Characterize Trump as ‘Chaotic,’ ‘Moving Fast’
- Navigator: “In particular, the funding freeze seems cruel and not well-planned.”
- Navigator: “Many express concern about the influence of billionaires and corporations on the administration”
Americans disapprove of Trump’s reliance on billionaires to run the government:
- AP-NORC: 6 in 10 U.S. adults say it is a bad thing for the president to rely on billionaires for advice about government policy, while only about 1 in 10 call it a very or somewhat good thing.
- House Majority Forward: 70 percent of respondents opposed “appointing up to nine different billionaires to the administration.”
The bottom line: In less than three weeks, Donald Trump and his billionaire Cabinet are facing steep backlash after putting their own selfish interests above the interests of working families. If Trump continues to attack critical programs and elevate out-of-touch billionaires, Americans will make Trump and Republicans across the country pay at the ballot box.
