NEW POLLS: Americans Overwhelmingly Support Biden’s Covid Relief Plan as GOP Focuses on Playing Political Games
February 24, 2021
As Republicans continue to oppose President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, two new polls out today make it clear that they’re not listening to their constituents. The polls show Biden’s plan to keep Americans safe and secure our economy is not only supported by the vast majority of Americans — including a large number of Republicans — but is the most popular major White House or congressional initiative since 2007.
Americans overwhelmingly support President Biden’s COVID relief plan.
Morning Consult: “76 percent said they back the stimulus package, including 52 percent who said they ‘strongly’ support the bill.”
The Economist’s G. Elliott Morris: “66% of Americans in a new The Economist/YouGov poll said they support Biden’s economic/covid-19 relief plan.”
Support for Biden’s American Rescue Plan is bipartisan, with large numbers of Republicans and independents supporting it.
Morning Consult: “7 in 10 independents support the stimulus proposal, compared to over 1 in 5 who oppose it.”
Morning Consult: “More than half of GOP voters still back the stimulus package at 60 percent.”
And although Americans want Biden’s plan, Republicans continue to go against their constituents and oppose it.
Politico: “Republicans are making a risky but calculated bet: that voters won’t punish them for opposing a popular $1.9 trillion coronavirus bill.”
CNN: “Republican leaders in both chambers are maneuvering to keep all of their members in line against the $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief plan, a move that would deny President Joe Biden a bipartisan victory and one that could scuttle the bill in the Senate if any Democrat breaks ranks. But the move amounts to a political risk for Republicans with polls showing clear majorities of Americans supporting an emergency rescue package and with the economy still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic.”
