NEW POLLS: Americans Reject Trump’s Failed Leadership

New polls show Americans reject Trump’s failed leadership. Even senior Trump officials and top Republicans actively distanced themselves from his shameful photo-op yesterday, a political stunt intended to throw gasoline on racial divides.

A new poll shows a majority of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of race relations.

Yahoo!/YouGov: “A similar majority of Americans said they disapprove of Trump’s handling of race relations — among them, 41 percent of the total agreed ‘strongly’ and 12 percent agreed ‘somewhat.’”

By a 17-point margin, Americans disapprove of how Trump has handled protests following the murder of George Floyd.

The Hill: “Roughly half of respondents to the CBS News poll – 49 percent – said they disapprove of Trump’s response to the protests, which began in Minneapolis last week after the death of 46-year-old George Floyd in police custody. About one third – 32 percent – said that they approve of the president’s response.

Americans don’t trust Trump to address police reform or racial inequalities, and Biden has a double digital advantage on those issues.

Morning Consult: “Trump… trails presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden by double digits when it comes to whom voters trust the most to tackle a number of issues related to the demonstrations that erupted over the weekend in dozens of U.S. cities, including police reform and racial inequalities across American society.”

Trump’s inflammatory response to the nationwide protests against police brutality was too much for senior Trump officials and top Republicans to stomach.

Sen. Ben Sasse: “There is no right to riot… But there is a fundamental—a Constitutional—right to protest, and I’m against clearing out a peaceful protest for a photo op that treats the Word of God as a political prop.”

Sen. Lisa Murkowski: “What we saw last night ‘was not the America that I know.’”

PBS Newshour: “Extraordinary. Senior Defense Official distances @EsperDoD @thejointstaff Milley from @realDonaldTrump photo op outside St. Johns. ‘Their understanding was they were walking out of the White House to walk through Lafayette Park to review efforts to quell the protests’”

Axios: “A senior White House official told Axios that when they saw the tear gas clearing the crowd for Trump to walk to the church with his entourage: ‘I’ve never been more ashamed. I’m really honestly disgusted. I’m sick to my stomach.’”
