New: Trump Flees to Davos While Americans Struggle To Afford Groceries, Homes

Today, Donald Trump is in Davos, Switzerland, escaping the fact that he has fallen short on economic promises for everyday Americans, to rub elbows with the richest people in the world. Yesterday, when asked about Americans struggling under rising prices, Trump claimed that “a lot of people are listening to the fake news,” yet new data reveal that families lost $1,625 due to Trump’s tariffs during his first year back in office, including $310 on grocery costs alone.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement

“Donald Trump’s economy has become a living hell for millions of Americans, yet he continues his playbook of catering to billionaires. Working families are being crushed by rising costs and massive job cuts, and they’re shouldering the burden of Trump’s chaotic tariff policy. While Democrats are fighting to lower costs for everyday Americans, Trump and Republicans have sold them out at every turn. It’s no wonder Republicans are dreading the midterms.”

It’s no surprise that 53% of U.S. adults said the national economy has become somewhat or much worse off since Trump became president again, considering that the inflation rate was dropping when Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2025, but climbed back up after Liberation Day and remains elevated — with grocery prices at an all-time high.
