One Month Countdown Until Trump & GOP Skyrocket Americans’ Health Care Costs

In just one month, Americans will be forced to bear the costs of Donald Trump’s health care crisis, simply because Republicans refused to help tens of millions of Americans afford their health insurance. On January 1, 22 million Americans will face health care premiums that are more expensive by an average of 114%, on top of the tens of millions of Americans who will lose Medicaid coverage as a result of Trump’s budget bill.

Americans across the country have begged Trump and Republicans to act on the expiring enhanced ACA premium tax credits, but Trump has refused time and time again. Just last week, Trump pushed back against a health care proposal from his own White House, declaring that “somebody said that I want to extend them for two years. I don’t want to extend them for two years. I’d rather not extend them at all.” That’s after Trump’s CMS Administrator, Dr. Mehmet Oz, refused to commit the Administration to making sure Americans can afford insurance.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“In just one month, millions of hardworking Americans will come face to face with a health care affordability crisis that could force them to make harrowing decisions or even go without insurance altogether, all because Donald Trump and Republicans would rather fund giveaways to billionaires. While Trump’s focus is on billionaires, ballrooms, and bathrooms, Democrats will keep fighting to lower costs and make health care a right, not a privilege. Americans will not stand for Trump and Republicans’ attempts to rig the system for the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of working families.”
