Perez, Gillibrand, Warren and Carrier Union Leader Chuck Jones Slam Trump for Failing Workers

DNC Chair Tom Perez, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and former United Steelworkers Local 1999 president Chuck Jones yesterday slammed President Trump for failing working people.

On a press call, the Democrats discussed how Trump made big promises to grow the economy, bring back jobs, raise wages and protect American workers, but all have gone unfulfilled. Trump’s betrayal of workers and his devotion to the top 1% represent a central lie of his presidency.

“This is what it’s all about in year one of Trump. Yes, there is change, but it is change that is hurting workers. Workers struggling with opioid addiction are struggling to wonder if they’re going to have access to health care as a result of the reckless activities of this president. Voters won’t forget this betrayal when they go to the polls for the midterm election in November. And Democrats won’t stop fighting for workers.” – DNC Chair Tom Perez

“Candidate Trump promised… that he was going to fix our tax system so that Americans as rich as Donald Trump don’t get to pay lower taxes than a nurse or a cop. He promised that he was going to drain the swamp and get rid of corruption in Washington, and change the culture here so that no one could profit off of their government work. That’s what candidate Trump promised. So, our question is obviously what about President Trump, has he kept those promises to hardworking American families? Sadly, the answer is he has betrayed them.” – Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

“During his campaign, Donald Trump talked a big game about standing up for working people. He has said, and I want to quote here, ‘under a Trump presidency the American worker will finally have a president who will protect them and fight for them.’ But during the first year of the Trump presidency, Donald Trump has broken one promise to workers after another.” – Senator Elizabeth Warren

“Bottom line is, I don’t know how to say it any other way, Donald Trump’s a liar. He lied to the American people. He got elected based on promises that he has made no effort to uphold at all. Working-class people that have historically voted Democratic bought into his message and he used them.” – Former USW Local 1999 President Chuck Jones
