President Biden Takes on the Climate Crisis as MAGA Republicans Deny Its Existence

In response to President Biden’s latest win in combating climate change, DNC spokesperson Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:

“President Biden has done more to protect our communities and our planet from the climate crisis than any president in American history, and today he is making even more progress to meet this existential threat head-on. Meanwhile, MAGA Republicans up and down the ballot are denying the realities of the climate crisis and threatening to roll back the historic progress Democrats have made to protect our future and create good-paying jobs across the country. As Americans prepare to cast their votes this November, the stakes could not be clearer: This is a choice between  the MAGA Republicans running to gut environmental protections and take us backwards, and President Biden’s work to lower energy costs, create millions of good-paying jobs, and ensure the U.S. leads the world’s clean energy future.”

President Biden just notched a major win in tackling the climate crisis by pausing the permitting process for new liquefied natural gas export facilities, a move celebrated by climate activists.

Reuters: “President Joe Biden paused pending approvals of exports from new liquefied natural gas projects on Friday, a move cheered by climate activists that could delay decisions on new plants until after the Nov. 5 election.”

New York Times: “President Biden on Friday paused the permitting process for new liquefied natural gas export facilities in order to analyze their impact on climate change, the economy and national security.

‘In every corner of the country and the world, people are suffering the devastating toll of climate change,’ Mr. Biden said in a statement. ‘This pause on new L.N.G. approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time.’”

Climate Power: “BREAKING: @potus just halted new decisions on dangerous methane gas export facilities. In doing so, he’s acknowledging the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time.

This is a HUGE win — a HISTORIC win for the climate.”

Since Day One, the Biden-Harris administration has tackled the climate crisis head-on with help from President Biden’s historic Inflation Reduction Act, the largest investment in climate in American history.

Center for American Progress: “The Inflation Reduction Act may change this reality. Although it is domestically focused—and includes several harmful provisions on drilling that demonstrate the ongoing power of the oil and gas industry—this law represents the single-largest investment in climate action in U.S. history and will profoundly alter the international landscape. Indeed, this historic legislation will help the United States reach its emission reduction commitments, increase U.S. competitiveness and spur a ‘race to the top’ in the clean energy economy, reshape the security landscape, and, crucially, restore trust and legitimacy for the United States within the global climate community.”

Trump’s shameful climate record gutted environmental protections and pushed for policies that would make our planet worse off.

New York Times: “Over four years, the Trump administration dismantled major climate policies and rolled back many more rules governing clean air, water, wildlife and toxic chemicals. In all, a New York Times analysis, based on research from Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School and other sources, counts nearly 100 environmental rules officially reversed, revoked or otherwise rolled back under Mr. Trump.”

CNN: “The Trump administration announced Monday that it will begin formally withdrawing the US from the Paris climate accord, the first step in a year-long process to leave the landmark agreement to reduce emissions of planet-warming gases.”
