Primary Season is Over and LGBTQ Democrats are Winning
September 14, 2018
With primary season coming to a close last night, the stage has been set for the 2018 midterm elections. Throughout this primary season, we’ve seen LGBTQ candidates defy expectations and win up and down the ballot, from the state legislature to Senate to Governor’s seats.
Democrats have nominated:
-
At least 14 openly LGBTQ non-incumbents for Congress
-
In total, at least 19 openly LGBTQ people have been nominated for federal office across 14 different states
-
-
At least 9 openly LGBTQ non-incumbents were nominated for statewide/territory office.
-
In total, at least 13 openly LGBTQ people were nominated for statewide office across 12 states.
-
-
At least 101 openly LGBTQ non-incumbents were nominated for state legislative seats across 32 different states and territories.
Here is a list of non-incumbent LGBTQ Democrats running for state legislature, statewide offices, and federal offices. This list is not comprehensive but is the most extensive list of candidates any group has put together.
