REMINDER: President Biden and Vice President Harris Are Laser-Focused on Delivering for the AANHPI Community

DNC Deputy National Press Secretary Nina Raneses released the following statement:

“From day one, President Biden and Vice President Harris have worked tirelessly to deliver for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. From leading a small business boom to investing in our health care to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us in the wake of tragedy, President Biden and Vice President Harris have our back, and we will continue to have theirs come November. Donald Trump and Project 2025’s MAGA agenda is too dangerous and extreme for AANHPI Americans, and Trump has a long and shameful record of leaving us behind while using the office of the president to shame and scapegoat our communities during the pandemic. We refuse to go back. The stakes couldn’t be higher — AANHPIs were the margin of victory for President Biden and Vice President Harris in 2020, and we will be again this November.”

The majority of the AANHPI community wants to protect reproductive freedom, and they’ll help reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris to ensure our access to essential care is safeguarded.

NBC News: “Health care is the top priority Asian American voters are taking to the ballot box, according to the 2022 Asian American Voter Survey; experts say a big reason for that is the overturning of Roe v. Wade and the mounting restrictions on reproductive rights across the country. With studies finding that Asian American and Pacific Islanders show some of the highest levels of support for abortion rights, community leaders are expecting this issue to drive Asian Americans to the polls — many for the first time ever.”

Associated Press: “With abortion rights poised to be one of the major issues in the 2024 election, a new poll shows that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the United States are highly supportive of legal abortion, even in situations where the pregnant person wants an abortion for any reason.

“The poll from AAPI Data and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that nearly 8 in 10 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders think abortion should be legal in all or most cases. They’re also supportive of federal government action to preserve abortion rights: Three-quarters of AAPI adults say Congress should pass a law guaranteeing access to legal abortions nationwide.”

White House Fact Sheet: “To date, the Administration has taken action to:

Protect access to abortion, including FDA-approved medication abortion;

Defend access to emergency medical care;

Support the ability to travel for reproductive health care;

Strengthen access to high-quality, affordable contraception;

Safeguard the privacy of patients and health care providers; and

Ensure access to accurate information and legal resources.”

President Biden is closing the insurance coverage gap in our communities, lowering the cost of insulin for over 2 million AANHPI seniors, investing in our mental health, and making care more accessible.

CNN: “Obamacare sign-ups hit record 21.3 million as Biden pushes his efforts to lower health care costs”

“A record 21.3 million Americans flocked to Affordable Care Act coverage for 2024, further cementing the law’s place in the nation’s health care landscape.”

White House Fact Sheet: “Almost 1.5 million AA and NHPI people were uninsured in 2019 before President Biden took office and over 1.3 million people of color fell into the Medicaid ‘coverage gap’ and were locked out of coverage because their state refused to expand Medicaid. Since President Biden took office, the uninsured rate has reached a new historic low: 8% and over 5 million Americans have gained health insurance coverage.”

The Commonwealth Fund: “After implementation of the ACA, the uninsured rate declined among all races and ethnicities through 2016. Prior research has reported on the reduction and elimination of coverage disparities between Asian American and white adults, including significant gains among the lower-income population.”

KFF: Six percent of the 21.4 million Americans who selected a Marketplace plan identified as Asian American.

CNN: “More Americans can now get insulin for $35”

White House Fact Sheet: “Through the President’s Mental Health Strategy and other initiatives, the Biden-Harris Administration is leading a whole-of-society approach to transform behavioral health services and bolster support, particularly for underserved communities, including AA and NHPI communities. Over the past two years, federal agencies have worked to eliminate barriers to care; expand the full continuum of prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and prioritize integration of these services into settings where they can be more easily accessed.”

White House Fact Sheet: “The Biden-Harris Administration Advances Equity and Opportunity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Communities Across the Country”

“The Inflation Reduction Act locks in lower monthly premiums – about 197,000 uninsured AA and NHPI Americans will continue to save money on health care coverage, including the 50,000 AA and NHPI people that could find a plan for $0-premium plan in 2021.”

AANHPI communities are witnessing a small business boom thanks to the Biden-Harris administration.

Chiling Tong, President and CEO of the National Asian Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship: “AAPI businesses have benefited from a stronger economy, with over 2.91 million AAPI owned businesses and counting, fueling job creation and economic growth in their communities.”

By signing into law the historic American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS and Science Act implementing robust regulatory reform, the Biden-Harris Administration has led the most equitable economic recovery on record, creating more than 12 million jobs since coming to office and helping create new economic opportunities for all Americans, including AA and NHPI workers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs.”

President Biden and Vice President Harris have always stood with our communities in the wake of tragedy, and have continued to combat anti-Asian hate after an uptick during the pandemic.
