REMINDER: Prices Are Rising Faster Now Than When Trump Took Office, And Trump Is Doing Damage Control
November 17, 2025

Despite Donald Trump claiming that he would end inflation on “Day One,” prices are rising at a faster pace than when he took office — and working families are paying the price. Both CPI and PCE inflation are soaring, leaving everyday Americans struggling to afford groceries, prescription drugs, and sky-high housing costs.
After Democrats trounced Republicans in elections across the country, Trump and his Clown Car Cabinet have run out of excuses for his failing economy. Trump is attempting to salvage his trainwreck of an economy — and his approval ratings — by cutting tariffs on several goods, admitting that his unhinged tariffs are hiking consumer prices.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump has lied through his teeth to try to convince the American people that costs are down after voters outright rejected his agenda this November — and now he’s doing desperate damage control. Trump’s disastrous economic policies are driving prices higher for groceries, housing, and health care, while good-paying jobs are harder than ever to find. To add salt to the wound, Trump exacerbated the affordability crisis because he wanted to wage a reckless trade war. Trump and his administration have no plans to deliver on their promises, and it’s working families who will continue to pay the price — all while the rich get richer, and Trump basks in his $350 million gold ballroom.”
Trump has claimed that he and Republicans are the “victors on affordability,” yet millions of working families are still facing skyrocketing costs for everyday goods, energy, electricity, and housing. Everyday Americans are footing nearly half of the costs of Trump’s disastrous tariffs, and heading into the holiday season, nearly one-third of consumers said they are cutting back on holiday spending. Working families will pay more for their Thanksgiving meals than in prior years and are missing out on typical Black Friday deals, thanks to Trump’s unhinged tariffs.
It’s no surprise that nearly 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, and that his approval rating among Republicans on management of the government fell 13 points since March.
