You don’t have to take our word that Rick Scott’s plan goes after Social Security and Medicare. Even Fox News blasted Scott for proposing to put the programs in jeopardy:

Rick Scott not only put out a plan that could jeopardize Social Security and Medicare – he’s doubled and tripled down on it, as recently as TODAY.

Rick Scott: “In my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in 5 yrs. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.”

Rick Scott: “Yes, I put out a plan of ideas, and I don’t regret it one bit. Yes, one of them suggested sunsetting laws after five years — noting that if a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.”

Washington Post Opinion: “[Rick] Scott’s plan would also sunset — eliminate — all federal legislation over five years, under the (risky) assumption that worthy laws would be reenacted. That could mean an end to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, everything else mentioned above — and potentially more.”

And his fellow Republicans lined up to support it.

Fox 8 WGPH: “North Carolina Senate candidate Ted Budd ‘generally agreed with some of [the Scott plan’s] major points.'”

ABC: “‘Senator Rick Scott put forward his proposal that opposes reckless federal spending and intrusive government overreach and supports conservative goals like local control of education, election integrity, religious liberty, and an improved health care system. I think it’s important for elected officials to tell their constituents what they are for, and I support Senator Scott for doing so,’ Johnson said in a statement.” 

Politico: “Though Scott’s platform has roiled some corners of the GOP, it has some support in the party too. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said he’s ‘on board’ with Scott’s blueprint and said Republicans need to be thinking about ‘a universal plan that we need to sell to the American people.’”

Washington Post: “Scott does have supporters in the party ranks. Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) said Republicans risked being tagged as ‘the party of no or I’m not interested’ if they simply followed McConnell’s lead.  ‘Independents are the individuals that elect the swing-state senators and the president, and I think they want something other than no or I’m not interested,’ Braun said. ‘I’m glad Rick did it. Nothing is going to be perfect’ but ‘we’ve got to be for something.’”

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel: “Republicans like Senator Rick Scott have real solutions to put us back on track.”
