Republicans Continue to Wage Assault on Access to Reproductive Healthcare
May 4, 2026

On Friday, a three-judge panel composed entirely of Republican-appointed judges, including two Donald Trump appointees, restricted abortion providers from prescribing mifepristone by telemedicine and sending it to patients by mail. The ruling halted a Biden-era policy that allowed greater access to the commonly used Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved abortion pill. Today, the Supreme Court temporarily blocked that ruling, leaving the future of mifepristone access in the hands of the Supreme Court and Trump’s FDA. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also launched an FDA review of abortion pills, possibly setting up new restrictions on the medication.
With the Louisiana lawsuit and several other similar lawsuits from Republican attorneys general, Republicans are following the Project 2025 playbook and going after abortion nationwide, including limiting access to the abortion pill.
In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:
“Trump said he was ‘able to kill Roe v. Wade,’ and it’s clear he won’t stop there. Republicans across the country are mounting a full-blown assault on reproductive healthcare and putting women’s lives at risk. Now, the Trump administration is trying to make it even harder to get lifesaving reproductive healthcare by banning medication that has been safely used for decades. Democrats will stand with the majority of Americans who believe that the people, not politicians, should make their own medical decisions.”
