Republicans Protecting Trump And Others Who Incited January 6 Attack

For months, Republican lawmakers have downplayed the violent assault on the Capitol and police officers on January 6, and shown they will do everything in their power to protect those who incited the mob, including Donald Trump. Now, we might know why.

According to a bombshell new report, multiple members of Congress and their staff worked directly with January 6 organizers in their plans to try to overthrow the results of the election. This begs the question, are Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy willing to stand by and continue to protect Donald Trump and other extremists in their party, and most importantly, do they have no shame?

January 6 rally organizers say Republican members of Congress were directly involved in planning the events.

Rolling Stone: “‘I remember Marjorie Taylor Greene specifically,’ the organizer says. ‘I remember talking to probably close to a dozen other members at one point or another or their staffs.’”

Let’s not forget, Republican leaders have spent the last nine months whitewashing the violent assault on our Capitol and democracy.

Daniella Diaz, CNN: “I asked @GOPLeader if he still thinks Trump is responsible for the Capitol attack (something he said on the House floor a week after 1/6)“McCarthy ignored my Q & instead blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for ignoring a note passed to her about security issues during the attack.”

The Hill: “While Blunt was appearing on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ guest host Andrea Mitchell noted that Trump recently called Election Day 2020 an ‘insurrection’ and referred to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack as a ‘protest.’ She asked Blunt if he would also call this past Election Day an ‘insurrection.’‘

You know, I think the election was what it was. There’s a process you go through that determines whether or not the early reports were the right reports. And we went through that process. And I’m of the view that the best thing that President Trump could do to help us win majorities in 2022 is talk about the future,’ said Blunt.”

CNN: “And some Republicans — like Rep. Chip Roy of Texas and McConnell, who criticized Trump in the immediate aftermath of January 6 — are leery about taking aim at him now. Roy, who had railed against the effort to overturn the election in Congress, sidestepped questions on Tuesday when asked about Trump’s persistent claim that the election was stolen.”

The Hill: “Ron Johnson: Jan. 6 Capitol riot was a largely ‘peaceful protest’”

Rep. Andrew Clyde: “Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol and walked through Statuary Hall, showed people in an orderly fashion in between the stanchions and ropes taking pictures. If you didn’t know the footage was from January 6, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit”
