Republicans Want to Rip Away Health Care From Millions, and Mitch McConnell Tells Families to “Get Over It”
June 24, 2025

In response to Mitch McConnell saying families would “get over” the prospect of having their health care taken away, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement: “I hope Republicans can ‘get over it’ when they lose their seats in the midterms.”
SHOT: American families are scared they will lose health care and overwhelmingly reject the GOP’s budget to fund another round of tax handouts for their billionaire donors by gutting Medicaid…
- An overwhelming majority of Americans, including one in three Republicans, disapprove of Trump’s billionaire-first budget
- 59% of Americans oppose the GOP’s budget bill, with only 23% saying the proposal will help their family and 49% saying it will hurt them
- 64% of Americans hold an unfavorable opinion of the GOP’s tax and budget bill, including 34% of Republicans
- When people hear about the bill’s drastic health care cuts support shrinks and opposition grows — including among Trump’s own supporters
- After being told that the bill would decrease funding for local hospitals, favorability of the bill falls to 21% while unfavorability rises to 79%
CHASER: … while former GOP Leader Mitch McConnell said worried families would “get over it” less than a month after Joni Ernst told constituents “we all are going to die.”
Senator Mitch McConnell: “I know a lot of us are hearing from people back home about Medicaid. But they’ll get over it.”
Senator Joni Ernst: “Well, we all are going to die.”
