Ron DeSantis is a Hypocrite, Not Santa Claus

Ron DeSantis can call himself “DeSanta Claus” every day from now until Christmas Eve but it doesn’t change the facts. The same infrastructure and manufacturing funding that DeSantis spent the day touting primarily comes from the American Rescue Plan, which he made clear he would have opposed and called “Washington at its worst.”

Today, Ron DeSantis shamelessly tried to take credit for millions of dollars of funding in rural Florida communities.

Florida Politics: “Gov. DeSantis gives $5.5M to Hamilton County for infrastructure, manufacturing project”

Florida Politics: “The money was given by DeSantis through his Job Growth Grant Fund, a pot the Governor can use to fund infrastructure and job training projects throughout the state.”

News Channel 8: “Referring to previous awards given from the Governor’s Job Growth Grant Fund, DeSantis said he never comes empty-handed … ‘When I come, I usually don’t come empty handed. And for Hamilton County, DeSanta Claus is coming to town.’”

The only problem? This funding primarily comes from the American Rescue Plan, which DeSantis decried as “Washington at its worst.”

News Channel 8: “[The American Rescue Plan], one of the first policy items pushed by Biden, provides the bulk of the funds used by the governor’s Job Growth Grant Fund, as outlined by the state budget. $50 million in the governor’s fund came from allocations chosen by the legislature to use from ARPA dollars.”

But this isn’t the first time Governor DeSantis’s hypocrisy has been on full display. Maybe instead of comparing himself to Santa Claus, it would be more accurate to compare himself to Pinocchio.
