ROUNDUP: Republicans Want to Force 10-Year-Old Rape Victim To Give Birth

Yesterday, a top National Right to Life lawyer argued that a 10-year-old rape victim — who was forced to cross state lines to obtain an abortion — should have been forced to carry out her pregnancy.

Jim Bopp isn’t the only extreme Republican who thinks a 10-year-old rape victim should be forced to give birth — Republican lawmakers around the country agree:

POLITICO: “‘She would have had the baby, and as many women who have had babies as a result of rape, we would hope that she would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having the child,’ [Jim] Bopp said in a phone interview.”

The Meadville Tribune: “‘That baby deserves a right to life whether it is conceived in incest or rape or there are concerns otherwise for the mom,’ [Pennsylvania Republican gubernatorial nominee] Doug Mastriano told the New Castle News at a May primary campaign stop.”

NBC News: “‘I have a close friend who was raped and had the baby and has told me that she is thankful every day that — she was a minor, and she decided to have the child, because it’s a blessing…’ [Arizona GOP Congresswoman] Debbie Lesko said of the Ohio case.”

NBC News: “Said Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas: ‘I’m a pro-life guy, OK? And God’s in charge on this… We’re all God’s children.’”

CNN: “South Dakota governor defends state’s abortion ‘trigger’ ban when asked if 10-year-old should be forced to give birth”

This comes on the heels of Republicans desperately trying to discredit this horrific story:

GOP Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio quietly deleted this tweet to hide his gross attack of the child rape victim in his own state:

This is the state of today’s Republican Party: Arguing that child rape victims should be forced to give birth, or smearing the story outright as a “lie.”
