Senate Republicans Abdicate Constitutional Responsibility To Be Fair Jurors

Senators take an oath to act as impartial jurors in an impeachment trial, but Senate Republicans and the White House have already admitted that they won’t even attempt to hold a fair trial.

Mitch McConnell admitted that Senate Republicans will be working in “total coordination” with the White House.

McConnell: “We’ll be working through this process, hopefully in a fairly short period of time in total coordination with the White House counsel’s office and the people who are representing the president in the well of the Senate.”

Lindsey Graham said that he’s not even trying to pretend to be a fair juror and wants to shut down the inquiry.

Graham: “This thing will come to the Senate, and it will die quickly, and I will do everything I can to make it die quickly… I am trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind. I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here.”

Pam Bondi, who Trump brought in to handle communications for his impeachment defense, said the White House will work “hand in hand” with Senate Republicans.

Bondi: “We wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we weren’t working hand in hand with the Senate to clear the president of this charade, this sham…  And we’re not going to let it continue in the U.S. Senate.”
