Senate Republicans’ Hypocrisy: A Secret Health Care Repeal Bill

THEN:

Mitch McConnell“‘After castigating Sen. Reid for crowding out the rest of us and shielding his actions from public view, I assure you we're not going to turn around and do the same thing,’ McConnell said. ‘There's not a chance.’”

Mitch McConnell: “This is a very important issue. You know, we shouldn't try to do it in the dark. And whatever final bill is produced should be available to the American public and to the members of the Senate, certainly, for enough time to come to grips with it… And we are going to insist — and the American people are going to insist — that it be done in a transparent, a fair and open way.”

Tom Price: “With Democrats discussing health care in secret, they're sacrificing the trust of the American people.”

Mike Pence: “It's simply wrong for legislation that'll affect 100% of the American people to be negotiated behind closed doors.”

John Cornyn: “The people have a right to know what is happening behind closed doors with secret HC negotiations.”

Orrin Hatch: “The real bill is currently being written behind closed doors in the dark corners of the Capitol.”

NOW:

Senate Republicans have worked behind closed doors to pass a secret health care repeal bill, without holding any public hearings or allowing expert opinion. It was recently reported that Senators and the public will have roughly only one week to review the text of the bill before it is voted on.
