Senate Republicans Put Trump Above the Constitution, Refuse To Do Their Job by Voting Against War Powers Resolution
June 28, 2025

In response to Senate Republicans once again bending the knee to Donald Trump, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Senate Republicans are once again putting Donald Trump above the Constitution and refusing to live by their oath of office. The American people have been crystal clear: They don’t want leaders who sidestep Congress and the Constitution. Americans overwhelmingly do not want new wars. To quote Donald Trump: ‘Whether you’re a Republican or Democrat … you should get authorization.’ It’s about time Senate Republicans remember their oath is to the Constitution, not Donald Trump.”
Last night, Senate Republicans put Trump above the Constitution yet again, voting against a war powers resolution.
Stephen Neukam, Axios: “NEWS — The Senate just rejected a war powers resolution to restrict Trump’s authority on military action against Iran.
“The vote failed 47 to 53.”
Trump unilaterally bombed Iran — an act of war — without congressional approval or notifying key national security leaders in Congress …

Manu Raju, CNN: “Top Dems on House and Senate Intel Committees — Jim Himes and Mark Warner, both members of Gang of Eight — were not briefed before the attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, per sources.”

… and then delayed briefing Congress, and is now refusing to share critical intelligence with congressional leaders.

Washington Post: “White House to limit intelligence sharing, skip Gabbard at Senate Iran briefing”
“The White House plans to limit classified intelligence sharing with Congress …
“Democrats on the Hill have been sharply critical of the Trump administration for failing to brief lawmakers on Iran — with multiple members pointing to the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of military action and provide a classified briefing.”
REMINDER: There are still questions about whether Trump’s strike was successful and if the administration knows where Iran’s enriched uranium is.
Politico: “The administration is struggling to back up Trump’s bold claims on Iran strikes”
“So far, officials have not been able to publicly provide convincing evidence that the entirety of Iran’s sprawling nuclear program was destroyed — a conclusion that would likely take spy agencies weeks if not months to establish. Assessments they have offered are light on details and flit between ambiguous language about whether Tehran’s nuclear program has been destroyed or just experienced a major setback — a lesser achievement.”
