Senate Republicans Voted Against Police Funding
July 27, 2022
As Senate Republicans hold a press conference to talk about crime, let’s not forget that every single one of them voted against the American Rescue Plan, which has provided critical funding to many local police departments in their states. Make no mistake: Despite every claim that they “Back the Blue,” these MAGA Republicans are weak on crime.

Led by Mitch McConnell, many of these same Senate Republicans also backed Trump’s budget plan that proposed to defund the COPS program — which provides funding to state and local law enforcement agencies.
Jonathan Allen, NBC News: “When Trump was president, he proposed slashing federal funding for local police forces.”
Wall Street Journal: “The [Trump] administration’s 2021 budget, like all its previous budgets, recommended eliminating the Community Relations Services and Community Oriented Policing Services and placing their functions under other parts of the department to ‘improve efficiency.’”
Remember: Senate Republicans tried to rewrite history and blocked an independent January 6 commission from even being created to investigate the Capitol riot.

As President Joe Biden made clear this week, you cannot be pro-insurrection and pro-police. While President Biden and Democrats work to fund the police and provide them with the resources to tackle violent crime, the GOP has failed to support our law enforcement.
