“Shameful”: Trump Golfing, Raising Cash At Rich Friend’s Estate After Breaking Promises to Hardworking California Families

In response to Donald Trump’s visit to Southern California this week, Democratic National Committee spokesperson John Weber released the following statement:

“This is shameful. Just after proposing devastating cuts to California families’ Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, Donald Trump is spending time with the only Californians he’s ever cared about: ultra-wealthy donors. Californians deserve a president who prioritizes the needs of working families over the demands of a few powerful special interests, and this November, we’ll send one to the White House.”

BACKGROUND ON TRUMP’S BROKEN PROMISES TO CALIFORNIA

Promise: “I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid.” [Tweet, 5/7/2015]

Promise: “We will not be touching your Social Security or Medicare in Fiscal 2021 Budget.” [Tweet, 2/8/2020]

Reality: Trump’s FY 2021 budget proposed cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. More than 3.7 million Californians rely on their hard-earned Medicare benefits, and three out of every seven California children receives their health care through Medicaid.
