Spooky Season Brings Soaring Candy Prices, Amid Skyrocketing Inflation and Donald Trump’s Reckless Trade War
October 31, 2025

The scariest part of Halloween this year isn’t the costumes or the haunted houses — it’s Donald Trump’s disastrous economy. As children prepare to trick-or-treat, families face sky-high prices from Trump’s rising inflation. Candy is 10.8% more expensive this Halloween season than last year — nearly four times the overall rate of inflation. Almost 80% of consumers indicated they expect Halloween prices to be higher thanks to Trump’s reckless tariffs, and nearly 60% say rising prices are changing how much they spend on candy.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“As if Donald Trump’s economy couldn’t get any scarier, this Halloween is another reminder that his disastrous economic policies are haunting American households. His reckless tariffs are driving up inflation and forcing working families to shell out even more money for everything from groceries to housing and, now, Halloween candy. Every day, Americans are confronted with scarier prices and have to spend more for less. Trump’s economy is a real-life nightmare for working families.”
Trump has tried his best to gaslight the American people into believing that he’s “already taken care of” inflation — but working families see the reality every time they check out at the grocery store. Prices on nearly everything from groceries to housing are soaring, the job market is tumbling further into turmoil every day, and Trump’s trade war is sending the economy into chaos.
Meanwhile, Trump and Republicans are still refusing to extend the enhanced ACA premium tax credits, and 22 million Americans are about to wake up tomorrow to see skyrocketing health care premiums for next year, which will force them to break the bank or lose health care coverage completely. It’s no wonder that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy.
