Statement by DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Recognition of Cesar Chavez Day
March 31, 2016
WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement in recognition of Cesar Chavez Day:
“Today, we recognize the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, whose tireless commitment to fighting to improve the treatment, pay and working conditions of farm laborers continues to have an impact nearly a quarter century after his death. President Obama’s designation of Chavez’s home and the United Farm Workers headquarters as a national monument was a fitting tribute to this selfless community and civil rights leader.
“In that spirit, Cesar Chavez Day is not only a day to remember but to also carry on his legacy by giving back to our communities through service to others and renewing our commitment to fulfilling the promise of America.”
