Statement from DNC Chair Ken Martin Following Trump’s ‘100 Day’ Michigan Rally

In response to Donald Trump’s Michigan rally capping off his disastrous first 100 days, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“While Donald Trump lives in his delusions, Michigan families – along with millions of working families across this country – are forced to live with the consequences of his dangerous, chaotic, and economy-destroying agenda. Trump promised to keep auto plants open. They closed. Trump promised to bring down prices. They’re spiking. Trump promised a ‘golden age.’ Instead we got the Dark Ages. Thanks to Trump, Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are on the chopping block so his billionaire friends can get a tax break. Trump’s pathetic display tonight will do nothing to help the families he started screwing over 100 days ago. Michiganders and the rest of the country see right through Trump, and as a result, he has the lowest 100-day approval rating in generations. If he’s not already terrified of what the ballot box will bring between now and the midterm elections, he should be.”

Donald Trump claimed “the most successful first 100 days of any administration,” but here’s the truth:

  • In just 100 days, Trump steered the U.S. economy toward recession
  • Trump’s job performance has tanked to 39% — lower than previous presidents at this point in their term.
  • 3 in 4 Americans believe the economy is faltering and are preparing for a recession, with a majority believing Trump is to blame.
  • Working families face nearly $5,000 in lost purchasing power, and seniors are delaying their retirement plans as 401(k)s tank.
  • The stock market’s first three months under Trump was “the worst for any president” since the Great Depression.
  • Even Republicans are concerned about inflation and unemployment thanks to Trump’s trillion-dollar extra tax on working families.

Thanks to Donald Trump, Michigan families, like families across the U.S., are struggling under his disastrous agenda.

  • Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s cuts to Head Start have left providers and families in Michigan spiraling.
  • Michigan veterans have lost their jobs as a consequence of Trump and Musk’s federal layoffs, while jeopardizing timely health care for others.
  • The Trump administration has targeted Social Security field offices in Michigan.
  • Trump doesn’t give a damn about U.S. manufacturing. Under his leadership, the U.S. shipped more jobs overseas and shuttered factories. During Trump’s first term, Michigan’s auto industry bled jobs and a GM plant in Warren closed under his watch.

Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are pushing budget proposals that would take the current reality working families face from bad to worse – all to give billionaires trillions of dollars worth of tax cuts.

  • Through their disastrous budget proposals, Trump and congressional Republicans are planning to:
    • Put 2.3 million Michiganders’ access to affordable health care on the chopping block.
    • Slash Americans’ hard-earned Social Security benefits by defunding the independent Social Security Board. Some 2.3 million Michiganders receive Social Security benefits.
    • Eliminate Head Start — costing working families an extra $12,000 a year for child care and ripping away kids’ health care. 27,078 kids living in Michigan rely on Head Start funding.
    • Gut affordable housing and make energy more expensive for millions of working families.
  • All to give tax breaks to billionaires and mega-corporations.
