Tonight, Democratic candidate Taylor Rehmet clinched a shocking victory in the Texas Senate District 9 race — a district Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024. This victory is another sign that Democrats have the momentum heading into November. Democrats have now won or overperformed in 240 of 269 key elections since Trump took office.

In red, blue, and purple communities, voters are souring on Donald Trump and his disastrous, billionaire-first agenda that is raising costs on working families. In Texas, over 1.4 million people are set to lose their health care because of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, 15 rural hospitals are on the brink of closure, and families are paying hundreds of dollars more for the basics. 

That’s why voters are putting their faith in strong Democratic leaders like Senator-elect Rehmet who will fight every day to lower costs and protect Texans’ health care. 

 The DNC supported Taylor Rehmet by:

• Leveraging our distributed organizing program to help recruit local volunteers on-the-ground and reach more voters.
  
• Sending GOTV texts to reach critical voters in the final stretch of the campaign.
  
• The DNC has increased its funding to red states like Texas through our Red State Fund, providing $22,500 a month to the Texas Democratic Party for core infrastructure building and to help with campaigns such as Rehmet’s.

This victory is a warning sign to Republicans across the country. In a Trump +17 district, Republicans had to go all out and still lost this race. Tonight’s results prove that no Republican seat is safe.
