Thanks to Donald Trump, MAGA Republicans Continue Anti-Abortion Crusade Across America

In response to new extreme attempts by MAGA Republicans to rip away women’s freedoms in Missouri, Texas, and New Hampshire, DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:

“Anti-abortion extremists emboldened and enabled by Donald Trump are launching an onslaught against women in Missouri, Texas, New Hampshire, and across the country, from looking to ban abortion before many women know they’re pregnant to threatening to charge them with murder for seeking care. These far-right extremists are following Trump — the man who brags about “killing” Roe and called for women who have abortions to be punished. Trump’s yearslong anti-abortion crusade has allowed MAGA Republicans across the country to overturn women’s right to make their own health care decisions — and he won’t stop until abortion is banned nationwide. Since Roe was overturned, Americans have repeatedly rejected Republicans’ anti-abortion agenda at the ballot box, and next November, these MAGA extremists will find out once again that Americans want their freedoms protected, not taken away.”

Anti-abortion extremists in Missouri are pushing legislation that would allow for women to be thrown in jail for murder for seeking reproductive care.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “Missouri Republican lawmakers are pushing a pair of bills that would allow for women to be charged with murder for getting an abortion in the state.”

Associated Press: “Missouri lawmakers propose allowing homicide charges for women who have abortions”

FOX News: “Since the Supreme Court last year overturned the 1973 decision Roe v. Wade that had guaranteed the right to an abortion, most Republican-controlled states have adopted bans or restrictions on the procedure and most Democrat-controlled states have taken steps to protect a woman’s access.”

The Texas Supreme Court, at the direction of Trump-endorsed MAGA Republican Ken Paxton, blocked a pregnant woman from getting an emergency abortion.

CNN: “The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a pregnant woman from obtaining an emergency abortion in a ruling issued late Friday. The court froze a lower court’s ruling that would have allowed Kate Cox, who sued the state seeking a court-ordered abortion, to obtain the procedure. ‘Without regard to the merits, the Court administratively stays the district court’s December 7, 2023 order,’ the order states.”

USA Today Opinion: “Texas is showing Americans the dark future women face if Republicans have full control of abortion rights. The state’s abortion laws are so draconian, a 31-year-old woman had to ask a judge to grant her and her doctors permission to end a nonviable pregnancy that is putting her health and future ability to have children at risk.”

New Hampshire Republicans introduced an extreme abortion ban at 15 days, which would make it one of the most restrictive in the entire country.

New Hampshire House Bill 1248-FN: “This bill prohibits abortion, other than for a medical emergency, if the gestational age of the fetus is more than 15 days.”

Donald Trump can’t stop bragging about the unique role he played in overturning Roe v. Wade, opening the door for extreme abortion bans across the country.

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Trump: “I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.”

Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.”

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban: “I’m looking at all [options].”

Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

MAGA Republicans’ anti-abortion extremism is highly unpopular and has been repeatedly rejected by voters, including in last month’s elections.

USA Today: “Support for legal abortion rises a year after Roe v. Wade overturned-Poll”

“Americans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents. By 53%-39%, they supported a federal law ensuring access to abortion.”
