Tom Perez on Anniversary of Pulse Massacre

Tom Perez released this statement on the one-year anniversary of the massacre at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida:

“A year ago today, in the middle of Pride Month, 49 Americans were brutally murdered and dozens more were critically injured in the deadliest mass shooting in our country’s history. What began as a night of celebration quickly turned into a nightmare of unimaginable violence and hatred.

“This was an attack on the LGBTQ community and the Latino community. It was an attack on the American people and the freedoms we share.  While we have come a long way, the fight for full equality is far from over.  Democrats will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our LGBTQ brothers and sisters in the battle against bigotry.

“No life should be taken by hate. And on this anniversary, we must honor those who lost their lives by recommitting ourselves to the fight for a world where no one faces discrimination because of who they love. Already this month, thousands of LGBTQ Americans and allies have taken to the streets in solidarity and celebration of the LGBTQ community. If that’s not resilience, I don’t know what is.”
