After receiving Donald Trump’s endorsement in a tweet that made false attacks on Army veteran and Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam, Ed Gillespie is attempting to hide his cozy relationship with the president. DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement in response: 

“Ed Gillespie should be ashamed. Instead of refusing the president’s endorsement and condemning Trump for attacking a veteran, Gillespie took the coward’s way out. Voters have a clear choice: Ralph Northam, an Army doctor who began his career helping wounded soldiers, or Ed Gillespie, a Washington lobbyist who cares more about Trump’s wounded ego than the people of Virginia. Nothing will change the fact that Ed Gillespie would be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s disastrous agenda.”
