Tom Perez on National PTSD Awareness Day

In commemoration of National PTSD Awareness day, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:

“The men and women of our armed forces put themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedoms each and every . But not all wounds are visible. And for too many of those who wear our nation’s uniform, the hardships of war linger long after they’ve returned home. Our country has a moral obligation to our veterans to stamp out any stigma associated with  and to pursue responsible funding for scientific research that helps improve treatment.

“But instead of helping this community of heroes, Senate Republicans want to cut drastically the Medicaid benefits that support 1.75 million veterans every year. These cuts will be especially devastating for those with, who already suffer from a tragically high suicide rate. The Senate health care repeal bill is nothing short of a betrayal of these wounded warriors.

“In order to care for those who pledged their lives for our safety, Democrats will fight tooth and nail against this bill and any attack on our veterans. While we can never truly repay the debt we owe to those in uniform, we must always reward their courage with the care they deserve.”
