Tom Perez on September Jobs Report
October 6, 2017
After the U.S. Department of Labor released the latest jobs and unemployment numbers, DNC Chair and former Labor Secretary Tom Perez issued the following statement:
“For the first time in 7 years, the U.S. economy did not add any new jobs. Our economy lost 33,000 jobs in September, and we’re on pace to have significantly slower job growth in 2017 than we did in 2016. While President Obama’s bold policies and long-term economic investments continued to create steady growth well into Trump’s first year, Trump’s policies are putting all of that progress at risk.
“We should be building an economy that works for all, not rigging it to serve the rich. It’s clear that President Trump has yet to deliver on the economic promises he made to the American people. What’s more, Trump’s failed and chaotic leadership in response to recent natural disasters will only hamper our ability to fully recover. The Trump administration should stop acting like it’s ‘mission accomplished.’ Our mission has barely begun, and Democrats will continue to focus on lifting up workers, creating good jobs with rising wages, and ensuring greater economic opportunity for all.”
