DNC Chairman Tom Perez released the following statement on the tragic death of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen, who was killed after leaving the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in Sterling, Virginia:

“As the father of two daughters, I am devastated by this tragedy. What’s more heartbreaking is that this atrocity occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, a time when Muslims across the world are gathering to promote charity and self-reflection. All Americans, regardless of religion, race, gender, and sexual orientation, should feel safe in their communities and at their places of worship. As law enforcement continues its investigation, I urge all Americans to keep Nabra’s family and the parishioners of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in their hearts. The violence we have experienced as a nation in recent weeks is a reminder that we are all Americans, even with our differences, and such acts have no place in our country.”
