TOMORROW: Tom Perez Heads to Virginia to Speak at Event with NextGen America, Immigrant Rights Group
September 11, 2017
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12, DNC Chair Tom Perez will travel to Virginia to speak at an event hosted by NextGen America and leading immigrant rights groups. Tom Steyer, President of NextGen America, will announce a newly formed partnership with CASA in Action, Center for Community Change Action, and America’s Voice ahead of the Virginia elections. Following the events in Charlottesville and Trump’s cruel repeal of DACA, the partnership will work to elevate immigration as a voting issue in this November’s election.
At the announcement, Perez, Virginia immigrant rights activists, House of Delegates candidates, and DREAMers will join Steyer to discuss the growing political power of immigrants and what’s at stake for immigrant communities and people of color in the Virginia election. Following the announcement, CASA in Action organizers and volunteers will canvass their neighbors about getting out to vote on November 7.
The DNC is all-in in Virginia and has already invested an initial $1.5 million in the Virginia governor’s race, which is one of the largest investments to date by a Democratic group and includes the immediate doubling of the number of grassroots organizers on the ground and investments in digital, data, and tech infrastructure.
