Trump Convenes Cabinet Meeting Amid Historically Low Approval Ratings and Dysfunction and Chaos Across His Administration
May 27, 2026

Trump’s disapproval rating hit its highest point ever this week
Today, Donald Trump hosted a cabinet meeting amid historically low approval ratings and internal dysfunction and chaos inside his White House. Americans continue to express outrage over Trump’s tanking economy, unpopular war of choice with Iran, and rampant corruption across his administration.
The cabinet meeting today was full of even more flattery from his administration officials. A recent analysis of Trump’s cabinet meetings found that, “On average, at least one of every six sentences either flattered Mr. Trump, gave him credit or criticized his political opponents.”
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his clown car cabinet are driving the country into the ground, making life harder for working families as the economy tanks and Trump’s war with Iran pushes prices even higher. Instead of focusing on the issues Americans care about, today’s cabinet meeting was another show of political theatre as Trump’s administration officials line up to stroke his ego, proving once again that their loyalty belongs to Trump — not the American people.”
Here’s what Trump’s cabinet has been up to:
- JD Vance: After Vance failed at peace talks between the U.S. and Iran, he returned to the campaign trail to attempt to sell Americans a bill of goods on Trump’s failing economy and defend their indifference to Americans’ financial pain.
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio: Rubio has collected more and more roles as Trump fires members of his clown car cabinet, and he’s failed at all of them.
- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: Under Bessent, prices are rising at the highest rate in three years — growing faster than wages — and expected to rise even more. Bessent has consistently downplayed the financial pain Americans are feeling, saying, despite skyrocketing prices, “in their heart of hearts they feel good.” Meanwhile, Bessent’s net worth is estimated to be about $600 million.
- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth: As the war with Iran rages on and the U.S. Army, Hegseth attempted to make a multi-million dollar investment into defense stocks weeks before the Iran war.
- Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche: Blanche, Trump’s former personal lawyer, cut Trump the deal of a lifetime by signing a broadly worded addendum stating that the Internal Revenue Service is “forever barred and precluded” from pursuing “examinations” of past tax returns filed by Trump, his family, and his companies, and refused to rule out slush fund payments to January 6th rioters that later tanked a deal with Senate Republicans.
- Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins: Under Rollins, family farms went bankrupt at the fastest pace in five years in 2025, spiking by 46% from 2024, alongside record-high farm debt, and the costs of fertilizer and diesel are skyrocketing, making life even harder for farmers.
- Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick: Lutnick lied about the extent of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claiming that he cut off all contact with Epstein in 2005 and saying he was “never in the room with him” after that. Prior to his appearance before the House Oversight Committee, Lutnick made a whopping $5 million donation to a House Republicans’ PAC.
- Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: Under RFK Jr.’s leadership at the Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. has surpassed 1,952 cases of measles already this year. Now, as Ebola and hantavirus cases continue to rise globally, RFK Jr. has been largely silent, leaving Americans in the dark about major public health crises.
- Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy: Duffy went on a taxpayer-funded, corporate-sponsored family road trip, claiming, “it fits any budget to do a road trip,” as Trump’s war with Iran pushes the average price of gas to $4.45 per gallon.
- EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin: Under Zeldin’s leadership, the EPA has gutted rules that limit toxic chemicals in drinking water, risking making Americans sick and threatening the health of our precious natural resources.
- Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner: Under Turner’s leadership, mortgage rates last week hit a nine-month high, as mortgage applications plummeted 8.5% from just one week earlier, and the U.S. faces a shortage of nearly 5 million homes.
- Energy Secretary Chris Wright: Wright admitted last month that gas prices may not come down to pre-war levels until at least 2027, as Trump’s war with Iran continues to push prices at the pump to record highs.
