Trump Deems 100,000 Dead A Job Well Done

As the country approaches the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths, Trump spent his weekend golfing, tweeting wild conspiracy theories, downplaying the virus, and promoting unproven treatments. Now, instead of mourning the deaths, Trump is praising himself and declaring “100,000 plus” deaths a job well done.

Trump finally mentioned the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths, not to mourn, but to praise himself for a successful response.

TRUMP: “For all of the political hacks out there, if I hadn’t done my job well, & early, we would have lost 1 1/2 to 2 Million People, as opposed to the 100,000 plus that looks like will be the number. That’s 15 to 20 times more than we will lose. I shut down entry from China very early!”

Trump spent the weekend golfing, tweeting conspiracy theories and lobbying insults at perceived enemies.

Washington Post: “As the death toll in the coronavirus pandemic neared 100,000 Americans this Memorial Day weekend, President Trump derided and insulted perceived enemies and promoted a baseless conspiracy theory, in between rounds of golf.”

New York Times: “While the country neared six digits of death, the president who repeatedly criticized his predecessor for golfing during a crisis spent the weekend on the links for the first time since March. When he was not zipping around on a cart, he was on social media embracing fringe conspiracy theories, amplifying messages from a racist and sexist Twitter account and lobbing playground insults at perceived enemies, including his own former attorney general.”

Trump used an interview to attack a study that determined Trump’s delayed response led to more deaths and continued to push unproven treatments.

The Hill: “Sharyl Attkisson asked the president about the study, which determined almost 36,000 deaths from COVID-19 through early May could have been avoided if social distancing and lockdowns had started earlier. The president called the fact that the university would issue the study ‘a disgrace’ on the show ‘Full Measure.’”

New York Daily News: “Trump also defended his use of the controversial drug hydroxychloroquine to ward off coronavirus in the interview on ‘Full Measure’ with Sharyl Attkisson.”
