Trump Doesn’t “Want to Hear About” Affordability While His Economy Implodes

After Democrats’ resounding victories in last week’s elections, Donald Trump is floundering. Trump is attempting to claim victory on his failed economy while continuing to ignore Americans’ top concern, saying he doesn’t “want to hear about” affordability.

Time and again, Trump has claimed that he’s “already taken care of” inflation, and just yesterday, Trump said that “the economy is my thing, and we have the greatest economy in history.” But the economy is only great for Trump and his billionaire buddies, while working families are drowning under sky-high prices, massive debt, and a stagnant job market with frozen wages

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“When Americans buy their Thanksgiving turkeys or shop their usual Black Friday deals and are met with sky-high prices, they can thank Donald Trump. Everyone, from consumers to small business owners, is being crushed by Trump’s chaotic tariffs and facade of policy solutions that don’t come close to addressing the most pressing needs of Americans struggling to put food on the table every day. Trump could spend his time addressing the needs of everyday Americans — but instead, he prefers to insult them, while spending his days partying at Mar-a-Lago with his billionaire buddies, playing golf, or building his gilded ballroom.”

This holiday season, Americans will be paying more for less, thanks to Trump’s reckless trade war. Trump falsely claimed that costs for Thanksgiving meals are down compared to last year, yet everyday Americans are still struggling to put food on the table. And numerous companies have already indicated that they will be unable to offer their usual Black Friday discounts because tariffs have driven up their costs to unsustainable levels.

What’s worse, in addition to Trump’s historically bad job market with little to no hiring, wage growth has been slowing, and Americans are afraid of losing their jobs. And to add insult to injury, Trump last night said that he believes Americans — who are already facing a recession-like job market — “don’t have certain talents” to fill much-needed jobs.

Instead of focusing on bringing down costs for everyday Americans, Trump is offering “solutions” that will dig working families into an even deeper financial hole, like his 50-year mortgage proposal that will just hurt working families in the long run.

Trump continues to boast about having the greatest economy in the world, all while Americans struggle to make ends meet. He and his administration have even resorted to cherry-picking data from food delivery services to substantiate their lies because they know the truth: The economy is a wreck, and the blame rests squarely with Trump.
