Trump Has Failed Our Nation’s Veterans
November 13, 2018
Over Veterans Day weekend, Americans saw once again how Trump has failed our nation’s veterans. See for yourself:
Veterans haven’t received GI Bill benefits for months due to glitches at Trump’s Department of Veterans Affairs.
NBC News: “Veterans haven’t received GI Bill benefits for months due to ongoing IT issues at VA”
NBC News: “The Department of Veterans Affairs is suffering from a series of information technology glitches that has caused GI Bill benefit payments covering education and housing to be delayed or — in the case of Roundtree — never be delivered.”
Trump suggested not counting military ballots in the Florida Senate race.
Huffington Post: “But skipping those recounts would not only violate state law, it would ignore the ballots of tens of thousands of Florida-based troops deployed overseas. Those ballots are supposed to be counted if they arrive by this coming Friday.”
Trump refused to visit a cemetery to honor Americans killed in World War I because of a little rain.
Associated Press: “President Donald Trump canceled a planned visit to a cemetery for Americans killed in World War I, the White House said, citing bad weather that grounded his helicopter.”
Trump constantly lies about his accomplishments to veterans and military service members.
Huffington Post: “Even the two major accomplishments he boasts of ―providing record-high budgets for the military and passing a law to let veterans see local private doctors ― are both false.”
Trump’s Department of Veterans Affairs is secretly being steered by three of his Mar-a-Lago cronies with no relevant experience.
ProPublica: “O’Rourke treated the email as an order, but Moskowitz is not his boss. In fact, he is not even a government official. Moskowitz is a Palm Beach doctor who helps wealthy people obtain high-service ‘concierge’ medical care. More to the point, he is one-third of an informal council that is exerting sweeping influence on the VA from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s private club in Palm Beach, Florida. The troika is led by Ike Perlmutter, the reclusive chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who is a longtime acquaintance of President Trump’s. The third member is a lawyer named Marc Sherman. None of them has ever served in the U.S. military or government.”
Trump’s CFPB made it harder for the the Military Lending Act to protect service members and their families from deceitful lending practices.
NPR: “Under Mulvaney, the bureau is planning to halt regular monitoring of payday lenders and other firms to see whether they are violating the act and cheating military personnel.”
Trump has yet to visit our troops in combat zones. He has found plenty of time, however, to golf, fundraise, and boost his bottom line.
