Trump said he cancelled his foreign trip this past weekend, where he was supposed to commemorate WWII, in order to monitor Hurricane Dorian. Instead, as Hurricane Dorian strengthened and approached the East Coast, Trump spent his weekend wasting taxpayer dollars golfing at his own golf course, from which he still profits.

Trump spent his weekend “preparing” for a hurricane by playing golf.

But that’s not the only way Trump’s failed at his hurricane preparation…

• Trump still does not have key top officials in place to deal with natural disasters, including not having a permanent FEMA administrator or homeland security secretary.

• Trump proposed cuts to FEMA disaster response programs and planned to divert $155 million from the agency’s disaster relief fund to continue to separate and detain families at the border.

• Trump’s proposed cuts to NOAA and the National Weather Service would have left us less prepared for extreme weather and natural disasters.

• Trump’s tried to cut the pre-disaster mitigation grant program, which helps states and communities take long-term measures to reduce losses from disasters, by more than 60 percent.

• Trump’s tried to cut the U.S. Geological Survey’s natural hazards programs, which respond to natural disasters with the goal of reducing potential fatalities and other damage.

• Trump proposed eliminating the $3 billion Community Development Block Grant program, which helps fund rebuilding after natural disasters.

• Trump rolled back infrastructure standards requiring projects to account for increased flooding from sea-level rise.

• Trump has repeatedly downplayed the risks of climate change and extreme weather.
