Trump is once again threatening to block military funding and pay raises for service members, all because he is upset that Twitter won’t let him lie about the election he lost and so he can protect the legacy of Confederate generals. It is truly pathetic and a disservice to our nation that Trump consistently puts himself ahead of our troops. 

Trump is threatening to veto the NDAA because it does not include a measure to eliminate Section 230 and includes a provision to establish a commission to rename military bases named after Confederate generals.

TRUMP: “Very sadly for our Nation, it looks like Senator @JimInhofe will not be putting the Section 230 termination clause into the Defense Bill. So bad for our National Security and Election Integrity. Last chance to ever get it done. I will VETO!”

TRUMP: “A provision is in the NDAA for the renaming, or even desecration, of National Monuments in National Parks. This is not what our Country wants!”

Trump is putting himself ahead of our troops. His veto would block pay raises for our service members because he is upset that Twitter won’t let him lie about the election.

CNBC: “This year’s legislation includes a 3% pay raise for U.S. troops, a plan to rename military installations bearing names of Confederate leaders as well as a slew of other provisions.”

CNBC: “The president’s issue with Section 230 came to light this summer after Twitter added warning labels to several of his tweets that alleged mail-in voting is fraudulent.”

The NDAA typically passes with overwhelming bipartisan support and Republicans have already come out against Trump’s veto threat because his demands have nothing to do with this critical legislation.

CNBC: “The NDAA, which typically passes with overwhelming bipartisan support and veto-proof majorities, is a sweeping defense bill that authorizes a topline of $740 billion in spending and outlines Pentagon policy.”

Senator Inhofe: “First of all, 230 has nothing to do with the military.”

Senator Rounds: “I would hope that he would not actually follow through with that because the NDAA is critical.”

Senator Thune: “I don’t think the defense bill is the place to litigate” the Section 230 fight.

Rep. Kinzinger: “I will vote to override. Because it’s really not about you”
