Trump’s Failed Economy: Layoffs Are Surging and Jobs Are Disappearing

Major companies, such as GM, Target, and UPS, have announced tens of thousands of layoffs in the latest sign of disaster for Donald Trump’s job market. Under Trump’s watch, job growth has slowed to its lowest level in years, and there are more unemployed workers than job openings. Because of his reckless trade war, U.S. companies have already cut nearly 1 million jobs, and two-thirds of businesses have raised prices.

As layoffs surge and jobs disappear, inflation is on the rise, with prices climbing on everything from rent to groceries. It’s no wonder 61% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track, while 57% say the economy is getting worse.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Things couldn’t look more bleak for everyday Americans who are just trying to get by. Headline after headline proves what Americans are already feeling: Donald Trump’s job market is a disaster. As prices continue to climb and jobs disappear, working families are being forced to dip into their savings or go into debt to make ends meet. To make matters worse, Trump and Republicans’ refusal to extend the enhanced ACA tax credits or pay for SNAP funding is putting health care and food assistance on the chopping block for millions of Americans. With Trump’s economy already cratering, these mass layoffs are a daunting reality for everyday Americans.”
