Trump’s Immigration Lies
April 2, 2018
In a series of tweets today and throughout the weekend, Trump further made clear that he was never interested in protecting Dreamers and continued to spread more lies about DACA and immigration in America. Here are the facts:
FACT #1: TRUMP ENDED DACA
New York Times: “President Trump on Tuesday ordered an end to the Obama-era program that shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation, calling it an “amnesty-first approach” and urging Congress to pass a replacement before he begins phasing out its protections in six months.”
FACT #2: TRUMP SABOTAGED EVERY BIPARTISAN DACA FIX
March 19 –The White House rejected a deal to protect American Dreamers as part of the government funding bill.
Feb 15 – The White House rejected a bipartisan immigration bill introduced by 16 senators.
Feb 5 – The White House rejected the bipartisan McCain-Coons immigration deal as a non-starter.
Jan 19 – Trump backed out of a deal on DACA and the border wall with Schumer that would have averted a government shutdown.
Jan 17 – After initially being supportive, Trump rejected the bipartisan Graham-Durbin immigration proposal.
Jan 10 – Trump agreed to, then was talked out of, doing a clean DACA bill.
Sept 14 – Trump backed out of a deal on DACA and border security deal with Pelosi and Schumer.
FACT #3: TRUMP’S BORDER WALL WILL NOT SOLVE THE DRUG PROBLEM
Washington Post: “The president claims his wall would stop much of the drugs from entering the country, but that’s simply a fantasy based on no facts.”
