Trump’s Iran War Costs $1 Billion a Day, and Americans Are Paying the Price

Donald Trump started a reckless war in Iran, and now everyday Americans are footing the bill. The daily cost of Trump’s war in Iran is an estimated $1 billion a day, enough to cover a full year of health care for nearly 110,000 Medicaid enrollees.

The cost of Trump’s proposed $1.5 trillion military budget in 2027 is more than 60 times the cost of extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. At the current rate, it will take less than 12 weeks for Trump to spend more on this war than it would have cost to extend the ACA subsidies for 22 million Americans who have seen their health care premiums skyrocket.

On top of that, gas prices have spiked more than 30 cents a gallon in the past week, rising to an average of $3.32 nationwide today, higher than when Trump took office. Even Trump’s own chief of staff is sounding the alarm at the White House on higher gas prices.

There appears to be no relief in sight. Just yesterday, Trump said that he must be “involved” in the appointment of Iran’s new leader and warned that the wrong choice could force the U.S. back to war “in five years.”

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Without support from the American people, Donald Trump led the country into a reckless war with Iran that has taken the lives of six service members and injured several others. Now, the White House is scrambling to come up with a plan as the cost of Trump’s war skyrockets. Working families are already struggling with soaring prices and a hollowed-out job market — they can’t afford Trump’s war of choice.”
