Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: Elise Stefanik Led the Charge on a National Abortion Ban and Endorsed Cruel Bans Across the Country
June 21, 2024
As Trump VP contender Elise Stefanik speaks at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:
“Self-proclaimed ‘ultra-MAGA’ VP contender Elise Stefanik co-sponsored a national abortion ban, celebrated Trump’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, and called draconian abortion bans across the country ‘life saving’ while women are being turned away from emergency rooms. Stefanik is a champion for anti-choice extremism and in lockstep with Trump’s dangerous MAGA agenda.”
Sel- described “ultra-MAGA” VP contender Elise Stefanik co-sponsored a national abortion ban and — just like Trump — has endorsed draconian abortion bans around the country that Trump made possible when he overturned Roe v. Wade.
Washington Examiner: “House GOP conference chairwoman calls for 15-week federal abortion ban post-Dobbs”
“When pressed on a definitive statement regarding a federal abortion ban, Stefanik said that ‘we do have a role’ at the federal level … ‘We should embrace this debate,’ Stefanik said, noting the vital role of the local, state, and federal governments in fulfilling the ‘promise of new and better policies.’”
WNYTV: “Stefanik backs federal ban on most abortions after 15 weeks”
Stefanik: “Since Roe was overturned and the Supreme Court restored the correct interpretation of our Constitution, 25 states have life saving laws on the books.”
2024: Stefanik received an A+ rating from extreme anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
Stefanik: “I am ultra-MAGA, and proud of it.”
REMINDER: Trump said he’d sign a national abortion ban if elected to a second term and is “proudly” the reason millions of women live under cruel abortion bans today.

Trump: “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”

Trump: “I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of … Roe v. Wade.”
Trump: “We broke Roe v. Wade and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly … But they’re working, and it’s working the way it’s supposed to.”
Trump: “For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”
Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Trump and MAGA Republicans’ anti-choice agenda is wildly unpopular with the American people.
USA Today: “Americans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.”
Axios: “Most Americans support abortion access one year after Roe v. Wade: poll”
CNN: “A 64% majority of US adults say they disapprove of last year’s Supreme Court ruling that women do not have a constitutional right to an abortion, with half strongly disapproving – an assessment that’s almost entirely unchanged from CNN’s poll last July in the immediate wake of the decision.”
ABC News: “Americans continue to support IVF and abortion access”
“The vast majority of registered voters, 80 percent, think IVF should be legal.”
Navigator Research: “Large majorities say reproductive care like birth control pills and IVF should be made easier to access, including majorities of Republicans. … Americans across party lines also say access to fertility planning like IVF should be easier to access, including 72 percent of Democrats, 59 percent of independents, and 53 percent of Republicans.”
