In response to Trump VP contender J.D. Vance doubling down on Trump’s election denialism and attacks on our democracy, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: 

“J.D. Vance is desperately vying to be Donald Trump’s running mate by doubling down on whitewashing Trump’s reckless attacks on our democracy. Vance is shamelessly trying to soften Trump’s dangerous threats as he continues to echo Trump’s baseless election denial lies and attempts to downplay the violence of January 6. The American people rejected Trump in 2020, and they will never let him or his MAGA allies’ anti-democracy extremism get anywhere near the Oval Office again.”

NEW: Trump VP contender J.D. Vance is once again trying to downplay Trump’s attacks on our democracy and said Trump was right not to concede the 2020 election before January 6.

Vance: “I think the entire post-2020 thing would have gone a lot better if there had actually been an effort to provide alternative slates of electors, and to force us to have that debate. I think it would’ve been a much better thing for the country. … [Trump] was trying to take a constitutional process to its natural conclusion.

“I think it would’ve been extraordinarily disappointing to a whole host of people that I care a lot about if Trump had just taken it [and conceded the 2020 election before January 6].”

Vance: “No real Republican with any credibility in the party is still blaming [Trump for January 6].”

Vance has refused to say outright that he would accept the results of this November’s election as he continues to echo Trump’s baseless lies about his loss in the 2020 election and attempts to whitewash January 6.

Trump is refusing to commit to accepting the results of this November’s election and doubling down on his election denialism.

Trump continues to praise and promise pardons for violent January 6 rioters – who he calls “warriors,” “hostages,” and “patriots.”
