Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: VP Contenders Follow Trump’s Orders To Put His Political Ambitions Over Border Security
May 23, 2024
As Donald Trump’s veepstakes contenders once again fall in line to tank the bipartisan border security deal for Trump’s own political gain, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s VP contenders are pushing baseless lies about the toughest, fairest border reforms in decades all because Trump wants them to put his political ambitions and his own extreme and ineffective immigration agenda over securing the border. Trump directed his MAGA allies to kill the bipartisan border security bill because he doesn’t care about solutions – he only cares about himself and his cruel plans to round up people into detention camps and use the military to carry out mass deportations while he refuses to rule out ripping children from their parents. While President Biden is working across the aisle to improve border security, Trump and the MAGA extremists running with him are making it clear that they would sell out the American people in order to bow to Trump’s wishes.”

Navigator Research: “Two in Three Americans Support the Bipartisan Immigration Deal”
“Two in three Americans supported the bipartisan immigration deal reached in the Senate, but that will not be taken up for a vote in the House. … On the Republican approach to the recent immigration package, Americans’ greatest concerns are that they are focused on the wrong issues and playing politics.
“The immigration deal earns support across party lines, including among three in four Republicans (net +58; 74 percent support –16 percent oppose), two in three independents (net +48; 64 percent support – 16 percent oppose), and three in five Democrats (net +32; 59 percent support – 27 percent oppose).”
Third Way: “Voters like the deal, both as a whole and individual components. … Across the board, both swing and base voters are remarkably aligned in favor of the big security components of the deal… It’s not just the tough on the border policies that voters like—they also understand that a major piece of restoring order must be providing orderly pathways for people to come to this country in other ways.”
