Before joining last month's March for our Lives, DNC Chair Tom Perez sat down with young activists and Instagram influencers to highlight the DNC’s IWillVote initiative and encourage viewers to commit to vote in the 2018 midterm elections.

Organized by Instagram couple Justin & Nick, the group asked Chair Perez about everything from how to get involved in their local elections, LGBTQ rights, and reducing gun violence to the Dream Act and how to use social media for positive activism.

Justin & Nick were initially discovered by BuzzFeed and have developed a strong social media presence with advocacy outreach among their 545,000 Instagram followers.

“America’s youth are leading the conversation about creating change and getting involved like never before. They’re organizing marches and rallies across the country and showing up to demand action from their elected officials. And more and more, they’re making the decision to take matters into their own hands and run for office themselves,” said DNC LGBTQ Media Director Lucas Acosta. “That’s why Tom Perez was so excited to partner with Justin, Nick, and their fellow youth activists to help educate young people about the DNC’s new IWillVote program and how they can channel their energy into action by committing to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot in November. We couldn’t be more excited to work with such a diverse group of young activists to help us get out the vote for Democrats across the country.”

Through the IWillVote initiative, the DNC, in partnership with state parties and outside organizations, aims to reach 50 million voters before November to engage, educate, and mobilize them to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket. In order to achieve that goal, the DNC has embraced non-traditional methods to reach voters where they are in order to increase awareness and activism ahead of the midterm elections.
