Voters Are Fed Up With Skyrocketing Prices and Trump’s Disastrous Trade War
November 5, 2025

Voters are fed up with Donald Trump’s train wreck of an economy — and Republicans’ overwhelming election losses last night proved that. Trump himself admitted this morning that he doesn’t think the elections were “good for Republicans” — and for good reason. Trump has sent the economy into a tailspin, selling out working families while giving massive tax cuts to billionaires. And according to new data released this week, Trump’s economy is still shedding manufacturing jobs, pay growth has been stagnant, and small business employment contracted once again for the third straight month.
Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments on Trump’s disastrous tariffs in a suit brought by Democratic attorneys general. The Trump administration is arguing that it has the unilateral power to enact Trump’s unhinged trade war. Trump’s tariffs are crushing small businesses and farmers, and consumers are footing more than half of the bill so far.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Time and again, Donald Trump has tried to gaslight the American people into believing that inflation is down, but voters aren’t buying it. Costs on everyday necessities have skyrocketed, the job market is frozen, and everyday Americans are struggling to get by. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been handing out massive tax cuts to the top 1%, bailing out foreign countries, and building his $350 million gold ballroom, while putting working families on the chopping block. While Trump’s attention is on anything except working families, Democrats won up and down the ballot because voters know that Democrats are relentlessly focused on the issue that matters most — lowering costs so that everyday Americans can get ahead.”
In New Jersey and Virginia, nearly two-thirds of voters indicated that they were angry or dissatisfied with the direction of the country, and affordability ranked as voters’ top issue. Voters sent a message to Trump that they are sick and tired of his broken campaign promises. They want leaders who are truly committed to lowering costs and making life more affordable — not leaders like Trump who will sell out working families every chance they get.
