Today, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison held a press call previewing the 2024 GOP primary as additional candidates begin to get into the race for the MAGA base. During the call, he spotlighted potential candidates who have already embraced the most extreme positions on everything from banning abortion to cutting Medicare and Social Security.

• “While we’re still a year out from the first primary state election, Republicans are already working to outdo each other in staking out the most extreme positions as they make their own 2024 preparations – and we are wasting no time making sure that voters know what is on their agenda. No matter who survives the GOP primary – it doesn’t matter who wins – the future of our country and our democracy is at stake. We already know what MAGA control looks like: MAGA Republicans don’t put the American people first. They use power to benefit themselves, and the wealthy and corporations who fund their campaigns,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison.
   
• “[Nikki Haley] spent most of her time working for and praising Donald Trump and has long embraced some of the most extreme elements of the MAGA agenda… She signed into law an extreme abortion ban that had no exceptions for rape or incest, and she allowed for providers to be thrown in jail. She endorsed Paul Ryan’s plan to end Medicare as we know it, and she called it ‘common sense.’ She pushed for tax cuts that would benefit the wealthy and corporations. She refused to expand Medicaid to provide access to affordable health care for hundreds of thousands here in South Carolina… You know, there’s a lot of questions about Nikki Haley and about what she really stands for. If she says that she wants to do for the nation what she did for South Carolina, God bless us all,” said DNC Chair Jaime Harrison.
