WATCH: MAGA Republicans Are Hellbent on Banning Abortion Nationwide
April 25, 2023
As 2024 GOP hopefuls continue to declare their support for a national abortion ban and increasingly extreme anti-abortion proposals, the DNC is releasing a new video blasting these MAGA Republicans for chasing an agenda that will stop at nothing to completely ban abortion across this country.
Donald Trump proudly brags about paving the way for extreme abortion bans across the country after calling for women to face punishment if they have an abortion and, as president, backing a national abortion ban that threatened doctors with jail time.
The Hill: “The Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. … It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.”
Trump: “Nobody has ever done more for ‘Right to Life’ than Donald Trump. I put three Supreme Court justices, who all voted, and they got something that they’ve been fighting for for 64 years, or many, many years.”
Trump: “There has to be some form of punishment [for women who have abortions].”
Mike Pence has doubled down on his promise to sign a national abortion ban, including legislation that would ban abortion nationwide before many women even know they’re pregnant.
Pence: “I’ll certainly also support efforts to create a threshold of support for the unborn, even at the national level.”
Wolf Blitzer: “Would you support a six week ban nationwide?”
Mike Pence: “Well, of course. Look — I’m pro-life. I don’t apologize for it. I believe that we’ve got to do everything in our power to restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law. And I’d support federal legislation in that regard if I was in the Congress or had any other job here in town.”
Ron DeSantis recently signed ANOTHER extreme abortion ban in Florida, denying women the right to an abortion before many even know they’re pregnant. This comes after he already signed an abortion ban last year with NO EXCEPTIONS for rape or incest.
Politico: “Gov. Ron DeSantis late Thursday night signed Florida’s six-week abortion ban into law just hours after the GOP-led Legislature approved it. The legislation will upend Florida’s status as an abortion haven in the south, cutting off access for thousands who would otherwise travel from neighboring states each year for the procedure.”
BuzzFeed News: “A child who was the victim of incest was denied an abortion in Florida since the state instituted its 15-week ban in July, the local Planned Parenthood chapter told BuzzFeed News.”
As governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley signed an extreme abortion ban with NO exceptions for rape or incest that threatened doctors with jail time for providing care for their patients. Haley also celebrated after the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade and urged Republicans to get to work on banning abortion.
TIME: “The law passed the General Assembly last week and blocks women from having abortions after 19 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest. … Doctors who violate the law could face a fine or jail time.”
Newsweek: “Haley described herself as ‘very pro-life’ and has spent most of her political career fighting for anti-abortion legislation, including signing a law as South Carolina governor in 2016 banning the procedure in most circumstances after 19 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is at risk.”
Haley: “[The Dobbs decision is] a victory for the most basic right there is – the right to life. Now starts the movement to ensure the people and their elected representatives have the power to support every mother and protect every child across the country.”
Even before saying he would sign Lindsey Graham’s national abortion ban legislation if he were president, Tim Scott repeatedly co-sponsored and supported national abortion bans — some extreme enough to threaten doctors with jail time and even jeopardize forms of birth control such as Plan B.
Rob Finnerty, Newsmax: “Your colleague in the Senate, also your colleague from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, is pushing for a 15-week federal abortion ban, something that’s gonna be in issue come the next election. Would a President Scott sign that bill into law?”
Tim Scott: “Every day I would sign that bill into law. I would sign the most conservative, pro-life legislation you could bring to my desk.”

PolitiFact: “45 Republicans in the U.S. Senate sponsored or co-sponsored the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, that would impose a prison sentence [for doctors] of up to five years.”
2024 Republicans have spent years tearing away at women’s reproductive freedom, and they WON’T stop until women lose the right to choose — here are their records to prove it:
USA Today: “Hutchinson would support ‘a national standard’ on abortion”
“As governor, Hutchinson signed a near-total abortion ban trigger law that went into effect in Arkansas after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which established a constitutional right to an abortion, last summer.”
“The ban provides an exception for when a mother’s life is at risk but has no exceptions for victims of rape or incest – a lack of which Hutchinson has lamented, saying the ban should be ‘revisited.’ Regardless, Hutchinson defended the bill, saying the aim of the law was to reduce abortions.”
DC News Now: “Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he was ‘frustrated’ with state Democrats after a swift rejection Thursday of his proposed 15-week ban on abortion.”
Associated Press: “[Gov. Kristi Noem] and South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley released a letter to South Dakota pharmacists saying they are ‘subject to felony prosecution’ if they procure or dispense abortion-inducing drugs. The state bans all abortions except to save the life of the pregnant person.”
